The Ultimate Blender Guide: Complete Beginner’s Guide to 3D Art

Hello everyone this is a tutorial for blender basics. This is the first video in a series of Blender basics. I will be showing you how to start a blender project and its basics.

How to Download Blender

Navigate to blender.org, then click on the tab download. Then download the latest version of Blender. Once you have downloaded blender you’ll be given the DMG file in downloads. Select the DMG file and double click it, this will open up a window. Move the blender icon into the application folder. A soft ding will tell you it has been successful. Open up application, select the blender icon. Double click to open it and you’ll ask are you sure you want to open it. Then click open.

How to Navigate Around Blender

This should be your starting blender viewport. You’ll be given five different file types. All you care about right now is general. Click general. This should be your starting viewport. Press shift and middle mouse to pan around. Click down on the scroll wheel and it will allow you to rotate around. Scrolling on the mouse wheel will allow you to zoom in and out. Drag selecting with your left mouse will allow you to box select.

How to Move, Rotate, and Scale 3D Objects

If you select the cube and you go to this side panel. You’ll be given the location the rotation and the scale of the object. It can adjust this by moving the slider around. This will move it across the x-axis, which is the red one. You can move it across the y-axis and you can move it across the z-axis. The rotation will rotate it each on the axis. This x will rotate it on the x-axis. Y will move it on the y-axis and z will move it on the z-axis. The scale will move it on the x-axis, the y-axis, and the z-axis

How to Use Hotkeys in Blender

However you can also do this by using hotkeys:

To move something around, click “g” on your keyboard and it will be able to free move around. If you click “y” then you’ll be stuck onto the y-axis only. If you select “x” it will only move on the x-axis. If you select “z” it will only move on the z-axis. The same goes for rotation. The hotkey for rotation is “r”. Click “r” on your keyboard and you’ll be able to free rotate around. The same goes again, if you select “y” it will be stuck onto the y-axis. If you select “x” it will be stuck onto the x-axis select “z” it will be stuck on the z-axis. And scale also does the same. The hotkey for scale is “s”, click “s” on your keyboard and you’ll be able to freely scale it. However if you only want to scale it on the y-axis then click “y” and it’ll only scale on the y-axis. Same goes for “x” and same goes for “z”.
